History of Stanton by Dale
Stanton by Dale is a small village in the Erewash district of Derbyshire, close to the Nottinghamshire border. The name means 'farmstead on stony ground by the valley'. The village has a medieval church, St Michael and All Angels, which contains notable Norman architectural features. Stanton by Dale is perhaps best known for its proximity to the massive Stanton Ironworks, which operated from the 1840s until 2007, producing iron pipes and castings that were used worldwide. The ironworks site is now earmarked for major redevelopment. The village itself retains its small, quiet character, with attractive period properties and views across the Erewash valley.
