History of Scofton
Scofton is a small hamlet in the Bassetlaw district of Nottinghamshire, situated near the village of Osberton and the town of Worksop. The name may derive from Old Norse, suggesting Scandinavian settlement. Scofton is closely associated with the Osberton estate, one of the great country estates in the Dukeries area of Nottinghamshire. The Osberton Horse Trials, held annually on the estate, are a prestigious international equestrian event. The hamlet's landscape of parkland, woodland, and farmland reflects centuries of estate management. Scofton remains a very small, quiet settlement, its character shaped by its relationship with the surrounding great estate.
