History of Nuthall
Nuthall is a village in the Broxtowe district of Nottinghamshire, now largely absorbed into the north-western suburbs of Nottingham. The name is recorded in the Domesday Book as 'Nutehale', meaning 'nook of land where nuts grow'. Nuthall has a long history: the Church of St Patrick dates from the medieval period and contains notable 14th-century features. Nuthall Temple, an impressive 18th-century Palladian mansion, was sadly demolished in 1929, though its elaborate ballroom ceiling was salvaged and installed in a building in Missouri, USA. The construction of the M1 motorway junction near Nuthall in the 1960s transformed the area. Today Nuthall is a residential area with a mix of older village properties and modern housing estates.
