History of Moorgreen
Moorgreen is a small settlement in the Broxtowe district of Nottinghamshire, located between Eastwood and Kimberley. The area has deep literary connections: D. H. Lawrence grew up nearby in Eastwood and used Moorgreen Reservoir and the surrounding countryside as settings in several of his novels, including Women in Love, where Moorgreen appears as 'Willey Water'. The reservoir, built in the 19th century, is now a popular spot for fishing and walking. Moorgreen's landscape of rolling hills, woodland, and water provides some of the most attractive countryside in western Nottinghamshire. The area was also influenced by coal mining, with several collieries operating nearby during the 19th and 20th centuries.
