History of Kimberley
Kimberley is a town in the Broxtowe district of Nottinghamshire, located about six miles north-west of Nottingham city centre. The name is recorded in the Domesday Book as 'Chinemarelie', meaning 'Cynemaer's clearing'. Kimberley grew during the Industrial Revolution through coal mining and, notably, the Kimberley Brewery (later Hardy & Hansons), which was a major employer from 1832 until its closure in 2006. The brewery's distinctive chimney was a local landmark for generations. Kimberley has a strong community identity and retains its own distinct character separate from Nottingham. The town has a number of traditional pubs, independent shops, and is surrounded by attractive countryside with good walking routes.
