History of Holme Pierrepont
Holme Pierrepont is a village in the Rushcliffe district of Nottinghamshire, located about four miles east of Nottingham on the south bank of the River Trent. The village takes its name from the Pierrepont family, who acquired the manor in the 13th century and built Holme Pierrepont Hall, a stunning Tudor brick manor house that is one of Nottinghamshire's finest historic buildings and is still lived in today. The National Water Sports Centre, built here in 1972 for international rowing and canoeing competitions, is one of the UK's premier sporting venues. The village's combination of historic architecture, sporting heritage, and riverside setting makes it unique in Nottinghamshire.
