History of Hodsock
Hodsock is a small settlement in the Bassetlaw district of Nottinghamshire, best known for Hodsock Priory, a Grade II* listed historic house. The Priory dates back to at least the 12th century and stands on the site of an earlier medieval manor. The Hodsock estate has been in continuous occupation for over 800 years, a rare continuity in English country houses. The Priory's gardens are nationally famous for their spectacular display of snowdrops in February, attracting thousands of visitors each year. The surrounding area is part of the gentle, wooded countryside of northern Nottinghamshire, historically within the influence of the great Dukeries estates.
