History of Heanor
Heanor is a town in the Amber Valley district of Derbyshire, close to the Nottinghamshire border. Despite being technically in Derbyshire, it falls within the broader service area of Nottingham roofers. Heanor's name is recorded in the Domesday Book as 'Hainoure', meaning 'high ridge'. The town grew significantly during the Industrial Revolution through coal mining, iron working, and textile manufacturing. The Heanor branch of the Midland Railway, opened in 1890, connected the town to wider markets. The Ray family's lace and hosiery mills were important local employers. Today Heanor retains its market town character with a regular market, independent shops, and strong community links. The nearby Shipley Country Park provides green space for residents.
