History of Fenton
Fenton is a small hamlet in the Newark and Sherwood district of Nottinghamshire, located in the agricultural countryside near Sturton le Steeple. The name is of Old English origin, meaning 'farmstead in marshy ground' or 'fen town', reflecting the low-lying, wet character of the landscape near the River Trent. Fenton has been a small agricultural settlement throughout its recorded history, farming the fertile but flood-prone land of the Trent valley.
