History of Edwalton
Edwalton is a residential area in the Rushcliffe district of Nottinghamshire, situated on the southern outskirts of West Bridgford. The name is recorded in the Domesday Book as 'Edwoldintone', meaning 'Eadwald's farmstead'. The medieval Holy Rood Church, partly dating from the 12th century, is one of the area's oldest buildings. Edwalton remained a small rural settlement until the 20th century, when suburban development linked it to the expanding West Bridgford. Edwalton Golf Course, opened in 1901, is one of the oldest in Nottinghamshire. Today Edwalton is a sought-after residential area known for its leafy streets, good schools, and proximity to both Nottingham city centre and the open countryside of Rushcliffe.
