History of Costhorpe
Costhorpe is a small village in the Bassetlaw district of Nottinghamshire, close to the town of Carlton in Lindrick. The name is of Old Norse origin, meaning 'Kárr's outlying farm', reflecting the Scandinavian settlement of this area during the Viking Age. Costhorpe has been a small agricultural community throughout its history. The village sits in the gently rolling countryside of northern Nottinghamshire, an area historically influenced by the great estates of the Dukeries to the south. Today Costhorpe is a quiet residential village, benefiting from its proximity to the larger facilities of Carlton in Lindrick and Worksop.
